Visual Thinking & Digital Sketchnotes - Issue #5
Smart Sketchnotes
Hi to all of You,
The last newsletter, it was issue #4, was a very personal one. 4 subscribers only. Today we have a group of 15. Thank you for joining.
With this newsletter I want to share some secrets. It’s my personal story about learning to create Smart Sketchnotes. But let me start with a simple sketchnote first:
Sketchnotes are based on Visual thinking. I’m using Concepts app for sketchnoting. Networked thinking is my general approach. It helps me connecting the dots. I’m using Obsidian app to create connected notes. All notes are organized according the Zettelkasten method from Niklas Luhmann. I learned about it from Sönke Ahrens and his amazing book “How to Take Smart Notes”.
To implement the #Zettelkasten in my personal workflow it needs only three steps for:
Collecting ideas
Connecting ideas
Combining ideas
Using visual thinking and networked thinking in parallel it is a great help to create Smart Sketchnotes. Smart Sketchnotes are networked visuals.
But how to implement a workflow that allows to work with these concepts? Here is an overview in my second sketchnote:
Step 1 and 3 are part of my habit. Step 2 is the new concept. Connecting ideas is now managed with a Zettelkasten implementation in a tool like Obsidian. It’s the so called Second Brain that supports my thinking.
One step is missing. Implementing Zettelkasten in Obsidian needs some preparation. Here is my proposal in the third and last sketchnote for today:
It’s so easy and it’s fun to work with. You should give it a try. Are you ready? Any questions?
Here is my final quote for today:
You can not think without sketchnoting.
And smart sketchnotes are even better.
Stay curious, stay creative!
